Los Angeles Regional Science Olympiad

The Los Angeles Regional is one of the largest regionals in the country. Teams mostly come from Los Angeles County, while some come from Kern County. There are two qualifying Regional Tournaments for Divisions B and C, and one Division A-only Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Science Olympiad season. Below are some updates as you prepare your teams for this year's competition:

The rules manuals were released earlier this week and they are available for free at https://www.soinc.org/rules-2022. Please remember not to post these PDFs or send them as an attachment. National Science Olympiad requests that all players, coaches and officials download their own copies and agree to their stipulations.

Registration will begin Monday, September 13, 2021 at https://scilympiad.com/socal, and the cost per team is $260, which includes the Regional, State, and National fees along with a SkyCiv license for the team.

As announced last month, we are planning for our Regional Tournament to be part of the SoCal Joint-Regional Tournament using the Satellite Tournament Model on Saturday, Feb 26, 2022. In the Satellite Tournament Model, teams will be competing at their own school under the supervision of their coaches. On tournament day, the written tests will be provided through the Scilympiad platform and the construction events will be demonstrated at your own school through video calls with the Event Supervisor.

As safety and health guidelines and host site availability change between now and February, we may change the model to a Hybrid-Satellite Model or a Mini Model. If there are changes to the model, we will update you with the information. We will finalize the tournament model on January 7, 2022.

The 2022 SoCal Events and schedule are available here. The schedule and event conflicts are based on the National Tournament schedule found at the end of the rules manual. Click here to view how each model of tournament will affect if the event will be a medal only event or if it'll count toward the team total.
